Outcrop

An outcrop is an area where the normal layer of soil and vegetation has been removed by human excavation or erosion to expose rock formations on the surface of the Earth.  By sampling these exposed formations, data can be gathered from outcrops, including the orientations of structural geology and depositional features, as well as a whole host of petrophysical measurements.
